Reading Challenges

Join us in fostering a love of reading for all ages with two exciting programs designed to make reading fun, rewarding, and magical!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Start your child’s reading journey early! This program encourages families to read 1000 books with their children before they enter Kindergarten.

How it works:

  • Track your child’s reading from ages 0–5 (or until the end of Kindergarten).

  • For every completed tracking sheet, bring it to the library and let your child choose a prize.

  • Once you reach 1000 books, your child will receive a grand prize that includes:

    • Books

    • Toys

    • A gift certificate for a free library card

Track your reading year-round!

Reading Dragons

Here there be dragons! Reading Dragons is a time-based reading challenge that encourages readers of all school ages to read and become dragon keepers!

How it works:

  • Four dragons will be released per month, with four stages for each dragon (egg, kid, teen, adult).

  • Keep track of their reading time with the handy reading tracker (available soon!) in 30-minute increments. You can come in after every 30-minute increment, or collect a whole bunch at a time!

  • These cards are a symbol of accomplishment, and they can be used to play games with other Reading Dragons participants at various programs we will have throughout the year.
